Day 3 - A SUNNY Day of Work

There are some things you can do only on a sunny day!!! (Remember those Mid West?) Today in Costa Rica we could have done anything...because the sun is shining brightly. Don't feel too badly for us since it is 30 degrees warmer here than in C'bus!

It is a perfect day though for several of the projects on our list including clearing a field behind the missions house of grasses and high growth. In the dry season (beginning this month), pieces of broken glass will catch the sun's rays and set the field on fire. With the field cut down to a lower level, the possibility of danger is lessened greatly.

The guys go in full force with Machetes and a weed whacker, being sure to avoid holes and snakes!! This goes very well till the weed whacker looses a part and the process slows dramatically.

Meanwhile, a leak of "unknown origins" is causing water problems in the missions house, so a search begins by digging up an area of plantings near the patio. This proves to be correct and our "plumbers" start their work. As of right now, the fix seems to have worked.

While the men have been in out in the fields (very Gone With the Wind sounding, huh?) the ladies have done a morning AND and afternoon children's program at the church building. Each session has about 12-16 children in it. This is a chance to teach the children (and their parents) to be on time. Once the program begins, no one else is allowed to attend.

These are important lessons to learn so that later in life these kids can know that being on time to work and events is important -it shows great respect for the hosts as well as others who are on time. Guess this is a lesson to be learned world-wide!! Today's lesson was on the Armor of God -- Krista tells the story and Miss Cindy models the latest in Christan Warfare Ware. Having limited numbers has helped the ladies minister far more closely than they have before, so we are very pleased.

The men finish the day carrying wood from the field clearing to several homes in the community so that they will have wood for cooking and heating. Several of the guys do some furniture cleaning while

Tim and Patrick continue work on the wall. The ladies go to a women's afternoon Small Group at Carmen's home(the lady everyone is praying for). This is a brand new Small Group led by Ellie, one of the leaders here in the Vina Anonos. There were four other ladies attending and they all sought to minister to Carmen in this very hard time. The local ladies shared openly about their own life situations and times of struggle and hurt. I am sure that few US citizens can comprehend anything close to her situation. But here we see terrible conditions, hungry people, children undernourished -- yet God at work using Christ's Church to bring the ONLY Good News!!
